COALMINE, Ariz. — Federal investigators have released a new theory in the tragic death of an 8-year-old girl from the Navajo Nation whose disappearance last month sparked an intense search effort across northern Arizona.
According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, 8-year-old Maleeka “Mollie” Boone was likely struck by a vehicle on the evening of Jan. 15, the same night she was reported missing from her community in Coalmine, a small area within the Navajo Nation.
New Details in the Investigation
The FBI announced Wednesday that evidence gathered during weeks of investigation suggests Boone may have been hit by a passing motorist who did not realize a collision had occurred. Officials believe the vehicle involved may have been larger in size — possibly a pickup truck — based on preliminary forensic findings and scene analysis.
