In Loving Memory of Calina Yu

With profound sadness, the Loudoun County community is mourning the tragic loss of 20-year-old Calina Yu, a Stone Bridge High School student who was struck and killed near the school on the morning of January 13 in Ashburn, Virginia. According to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, Calina was struck in the northbound lanes of Claiborne Parkway, approximately 20 yards north of the intersection at Breezyhill Drive and Portsmouth Boulevard. Emergency calls were made at 9:13 a.m., and despite immediate response, Calina did not survive her injuries.

Authorities confirmed that the vehicle involved was an LCPS maintenance vehicle being driven by a Loudoun County Public Schools employee, who stopped at the scene. While the investigation remains ongoing and no charges have been filed at this time, the crash has deeply shaken the school district and the wider community.

Stone Bridge High School Principal Timothy J. Flynn shared a heartfelt message with families, announcing the cancellation of all after-school activities and acknowledging the emotional weight of such a devastating loss. Mental health professionals were made available to support students and staff as they processed the news. The school has emphasized the importance of compassion, care, and emotional safety during this difficult time.

Calina was more than a student; she was a young woman at the threshold of life, carrying hopes, plans, and potential that will never have the chance to unfold. Her passing has left classmates, teachers, and loved ones heartbroken, and the community united in grief. As investigators continue to examine the circumstances of the crash, those who knew Calina will remember her for her life rather than the tragic manner in which it ended. May she rest in eternal peace, and may her family find strength, comfort, and support in the days ahead.
