In Loving Memory of Unique Lee
The Mississippi community mourns the tragic loss of 38-year-old Unique Lee of Las Vegas, Nevada, who was killed in a fatal crash on I-59 in Lamar County on Friday morning. According to the Lamar County Coroner Blake Matherne, Lee was a passenger in one of the two 18-wheelers involved in the collision, which occurred at approximately 10:27 a.m. on May 2.
The crash, which blocked all southbound lanes of I-59, caused significant traffic delays throughout the morning and early afternoon, with drivers facing hours-long standstills and backups along nearby U.S. highways. Emergency crews from the Hattiesburg Fire Department reported an entrapment, and law enforcement confirmed that Unique Lee had died at the scene. Her next of kin were notified prior to the public release of her identity.
Beyond the statistics of the crash, Unique Lee was a person whose life held meaning and connections that extended far beyond the roadway where the tragedy occurred. She leaves behind family, friends, and a community grappling with the sudden loss of someone whose life was cut short.
Authorities and cleanup crews worked diligently to clear the scene, reopening the left lane of I-59 southbound by 6:00 p.m., though traffic delays continued as the area recovered. The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality and multiple law enforcement agencies assisted with road safety and cleanup.
As loved ones remember Unique Lee, her life is honored not by the circumstances of her passing, but by the memories she leaves behind and the impact she made on those who knew her. May she rest in peace, and may her family and friends find comfort and strength during this difficult time.
