UPDATE: Man Arrested in Deadly Northwest Roanoke Shooting
Roanoke Police Department have arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a 56-year-old woman Saturday morning in northwest Roanoke.
Authorities confirmed that 26-year-old Sincere Elijah Hardy, of Salem, has been taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder in the death of Kimberly Sue Lee.
Officers were initially dispatched around 9:50 a.m. on March 1, 2026, to the 1600 block of Burrell Street NW following reports of a shooting. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered Lee suffering from gunshot wounds outside a convenience store. Despite emergency response efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators quickly secured the area, and a significant police presence remained throughout the morning and early afternoon as detectives processed evidence and canvassed the neighborhood for witnesses.
In an earlier update issued around 2:30 p.m., police announced that a suspect had been taken into custody, though his identity was not immediately released at that time. Authorities later identified Hardy and confirmed the second-degree murder charge.
“The swift and coordinated efforts of our staff, combined with the invaluable support of our community through calls and investigative cooperation, led to the successful apprehension of the suspect,” said Chief Scott Booth of the Roanoke Police Department. “Mrs. Lee was a well-known presence along Orange Avenue, and I extend my heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew her.”
Police have not yet released details regarding a possible motive or the circumstances that led to the shooting. Investigators also have not indicated whether the suspect and victim knew each other prior to the incident.
The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities say additional information will be made available as it develops.
