BEAUMONT, Texas — A late-night shooting at a Beaumont apartment complex has left one woman dead and prompted a homicide investigation by local authorities.
Officers with the Beaumont Police Department were dispatched at approximately 11:37 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2026, to an apartment located at 5015 Pine St in reference to reports of gunfire.
When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a woman deceased inside the apartment. Police initially withheld the victim’s name pending notification of immediate family members. Family later identified the victim as Chrishiann Joy Marks, 33, of Beaumont.
Investigators say a person of interest in the shooting has been detained. However, authorities have not released additional information regarding potential charges or the identity of the individual. Officials emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing.
Gunfire Came From Outside, Witness Says
A man who told local outlet 12NewsNow he was inside the apartment at the time of the shooting described a chaotic and terrifying scene. According to the man, the victim was a friend, and the gunfire appeared to originate from outside the residence.
He said he and Marks were inside the apartment when “multiple gunshots rang out,” and bullets began entering the unit from outside. The man stated he immediately ducked for safety as shots continued and then attempted to render aid to Marks after she was struck.
Police have not confirmed how many shots were fired or whether the apartment was specifically targeted. Detectives are working to determine the circumstances that led to the shooting, including whether it was a targeted attack or random gunfire.
Active Homicide Investigation
Crime scene investigators processed the apartment and surrounding area for evidence late into the night. Authorities have not released details regarding a possible motive, the type of weapon used, or whether additional suspects may be involved.
