MADRAS, Ore. — The Madras community is mourning the tragic loss of 38-year-old Jared Elijah Cooper, who was fatally struck in a collision last Saturday along Highway 97, just south of the city. His sudden and unexpected passing has left family, friends, and neighbors heartbroken, as they struggle to process the loss of a beloved member of their community.
The fatal incident occurred around 11:43 a.m. near SW Falcon Lane, approximately four miles south of Madras. According to a preliminary investigation by the Oregon State Police (OSP), a 63-year-old man from Sandy, Utah, was driving a Ford Explorer that had been parked on the shoulder of the highway. As the driver began merging back into the northbound lanes, the SUV struck Cooper while reentering the roadway. Jared died at the scene despite immediate response from emergency personnel. The driver of the Ford Explorer was not injured.
Jared is being remembered as a caring and steadfast individual who brought warmth and sincerity into the lives of those fortunate enough to know him.
