Community Mourns the Loss of Julian Rosario After Fatal Shooting in Morris
The community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of Julian Rosario, 35, of Channahon, whose life was tragically cut short following a shooting in the early morning hours of Saturday in Morris. His sudden passing has left family, friends, and loved ones in profound sorrow as they struggle to come to terms with the devastating loss.
Authorities say Rosario was killed in a shooting that unfolded outside a downtown Morris bar shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday. According to John Callahan, the Grundy County Coroner, Rosario was pronounced dead at 1:16 a.m. in the 100 block of West Washington Street.
Police reported that officers from the Morris Police Department, along with deputies from the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, responded around 1 a.m. to reports of shots fired outside Clayton’s Tap, located at 122 W. Washington St. When they arrived, officers found two men suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Rosario was pronounced dead at the scene, while another man was transported to Morris Hospital with injuries described by police as critical.
The second victim’s current condition has not been publicly updated.
Authorities have taken Marshall Szpara, 22, of Seneca, into custody in connection with the shooting. Szpara was initially charged with two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm. Officials said the charges are pending further review by the Grundy County State’s Attorney’s Office, and no additional charges have yet been announced in Rosario’s death.
In a statement shared on its Facebook page, Clayton’s Tap said staff members became aware of the gunfire just before closing time. Employees assisted victims and patrons while others contacted emergency services.
“We are deeply saddened by the incident that occurred outside our establishment,” the bar stated. “Our hearts are very heavy for the victims, our staff, and our community.”
The tragedy has sent shockwaves through Morris and surrounding communities. Rosario, remembered by those who knew him as a vibrant and caring individual, leaves behind grieving loved ones now facing an unimaginable loss. Friends have begun sharing tributes online, describing him as someone who valued family and friendship and whose presence brought warmth to those around him.
An autopsy was expected to be conducted over the weekend as investigators continue working to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. Officials have not released additional details about what may have sparked the violence.
As the investigation remains ongoing, community members are left mourning a life taken too soon and hoping for clarity and justice in the days ahead.
